The Rising Nations Institute

The Rising Nations Institute is the leading multilateral entity dedicated to advancing the implementation of the UN Sea-Level Rise Declaration, fostering partnerships, enabling collective action and elevating the voices of affected communities and countries.

Hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services and supported by champion Member States, UN Agencies, the World Bank, coastal cities, regional organizations, philanthropies, civil society and research institutions, the Rising Nations Institute advances efforts across knowledge, science and data, adaptation, community climate finance, and resilience.

It enables action to protect the rights, livelihoods, and cultural heritage of impacted communities, while mobilizing international support for States facing changes to their land territory due to sea level rise.

The Institute also advances efforts towards the protection of persons affected by sea level rise, supporting the “right to stay” of affected communities and enabling climate mobility with dignity.

The Institute further enables coalitions for action, serving as the secretariat for the Coalition for Addressing Sea-Level Rise & its Existential Threats, and the Ocean Rise & Coastal Resilience Coalition.

It hosts flagship global forums, including the Rising Nations Summit and the Coastal Cities Forum, bringing together governments, communities, cities, and partners to advance collective action and solutions.

The Rising Nations Institute advances its mission through three core Practices: the Knowledge Hub, the Solutions Lab, and the Communities Climate Adaptation Facility.
